I haven’t blogged in forever, but I want to get back to it so here’s some shameless self promotion! (Lovingly ripped from Ghost Light Theatricals’ post about the show on their site) Details are there, or below the break.
Brecht’s comic play The Caucasian Chalk Circle follows the unfortunate Grusha after she accidentally steals a baby left behind by his uncaring, bourgeois parents. Pursued through the fairytalesque Grusinia by the army and cast out by other peasants, she finds herself facing the child’s mother in front of Azdak, a drunk and unconventional judge, who will ultimately decide the child’s real mother. Based on a combination of story of the biblical King Solomon and a Chinese legend, The Caucasian Chalk Circle combines music and stage magic with sharp political commentary.
